Deb Artz

Employer: Internship Coordinator and GAP Counselor | University of California at Santa Barbara

Deb Artz currently works as Internship Coordinator and GAP Year Counselor at the University of California at Santa Barbara for 25 years. She currently serves as CIWEA’s 4-Year College/University Membership Chair and is actively involved as an advisory board member of the Santa Barbara Coalition for Global Dialogue; United Nations Association and Santa Barbara Human Resource Work Force Readiness Committee. She has presented at both national and international conferences on collaborative work to foster global leadership development and internships.

Sally Cardenas

Sally has been in the field of experience-based learning for more than 25 years - in public and private, large and small institutions. She has been an active leader in the work-integrated learning profession having served at the board level and as President of both CIWEA (CCEIA) and the national Cooperative Education & Internship Association (CEIA). Currently, Sally is the CIWEA Treasurer for 2010-2012 and she acts as the Association's administrator.

Katie Davy

Originally from New York, Katie relocated to sunny California in 2007. After receiving her BS in Human Development from Cornell University, Katie pursued her Masters in Counseling Psychology at Columbia University in NYC. Katie currently works as a career counselor at UCLA specializing in helping undergraduate students prepare for careers in competitive business industries. Prior to this she served as a career counselor at the New School University in NYC and Pepperdine University in Malibu. In addition to providing career counseling she has experience developing and leading professional workshops on various topics including time management, personal image, and networking. In her free time Katie enjoys movies, traveling to new places, reading a good book, and spending time out in the sun. Katie serves as the Communications Director for CIWEA

Debbi Glaunert

Employer: Associate Director of Strengths and Vocation | Point Loma Nazarene University

Debbi graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a BA in Business Administration. She was a small business owner for nine years, returning to her alma mater in 2003 to serve as Student Employment Coordinator. In 2008 she was promoted to Associate Director of Career Services, where she is given the opportunity to do employer outreach for internships, maintains the university’s online job board and assists students with résumé writing and job search skills. She serves as CIWEA's Vice President for 2011-2012.

Stacy Harriman

Employer: Career Counselor/ Internship Coordinator | University of California, Riverside

Stacy has worked for the University of California system since 2001 in a variety of roles ranging from student assistant to professional staff member. Since receiving her BA in History from UC Davis, Stacy continued to work at UC Davis until she received her MS in Counseling (career specialization) from Sacramento State University. In June 2010, after completing her internship at the UC Davis Internship & Career Center, Stacy began work as Internship Coordinator at the UC Riverside Career Center. In this role, Stacy connects intern employers with their target audience through creative recruiting events and targeted marketing. In addition, she provides individual career counseling and skill-building workshops to students of all majors and class levels. In her free time Stacy enjoys concerts, movies, traveling, and developing new talents.

Dan Jenkins

Employer: Director, Cooperative Work Experience Education | Mendocino College

Dan Jenkins, Professor/Director of Cooperative Work Experience Education at Mendocino College holds an M.A. in Behavioral Science from CSU Dominguez Hills, as well as a Master Addictions Counselor certification from the National Board of Addiction Examiners.
He began his professional career in 1980 as a detoxification nurse, then as an alcohol and drug therapist for Mendocino County’s Public Health Dept., and eventually became the coordinator for Public Health alcohol and drug treatment services county-wide. Jenkins pioneered numerous outpatient services for Public Health, including the outpatient drug court treatment program (OPTIONS) which is still in operation. In 1999 Dan was hired by Mendocino College as the Instructor/Director of Health, Human Services and Public Safety Programs. In this position, he developed an LVN to RN nursing program which served as the foundation for the current ASN program. He also established Fire Science certificate and degree programs, a Human Service Worker certificate program, and Human Services-Paraprofessional certificate and AS degree programs. Since taking the position as professor/director of the Cooperative Work Experience Education Program at Mendocino College in 2004, Jenkins has continued to write new curricula, and has recently developed internship programs for agriculture, culinary arts, political science and sustainable technology. Dan enjoys working with employers to develop work experience and internship positions for his students and helping students maximize the educational benefits of their work experience. Dan always worked full-time and raised a family while in college, through his graduate degrees. Dan is an accomplished gardener and, when not working or traveling, can be found caring for his garden.

Kathleen Mock

Employer: Recruiter for the Disney College Program | Disney

Katie Mock began her Disney career at the Disneyland® Resort in 2001, when she worked at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa. After graduating from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Parks & Recreation Management, Katie returned to the Disney, this time at the Walt Disney World® Resort. From there, she went on to spend four years in Management as a Front Desk, Bell Service, Valet and Concierge Manager at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. For the past two and a half years, Katie has been a recruiter traveling all over the western U.S. She currently is the California-based recruiter for the Disney College Program.

Maureen Schaukowitch

4- Year Membership Chair

Employer: Associate Director of Student Leadership and Development | Loyola Marymount University

Prior to joining CDS, Dr. Schaukowitch has been engaged in experiential education in various roles: as Director of Campus Ministry; Academic Coordinator for Student-Athlete Academic Services; and as Director of Internships and Fieldwork for the School of Education. She also teaches for the School of Education. She earned her Doctorate (EDD) in Educational Leadership from the University of San Francisco. Dr. Schaukowitch collaborates with the academic departments to secure internships for their students and engages the students to establish their areas of interest to determine the best internships to match their goals and aspirations. Building relationships with employers provides students access to the job market and the “right fit” for the students. She has worked with LMU’s Board of Regents in networking events to enhance the knowledge of students to the world of careers.

Sarah Yoo

Employer: Career Counselor | Pomona College

Sarah Yoo is the Internship Coordinator at Pomona College where she assists students in career exploration process and maintains partnerships with approximately 70 employers for the Pomona College Internship Program. She obtained her graduate degree at California State University, Long Beach in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education and obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego in Sociology. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, spending time with friends and family, and cooking. Sarah serves as the Awards Chair for CIWEA.

David Wahl

President

Employer: Special Projects Manager, Office of Instruction | Los Medanos College

David is a Special Projects Manager in the Office of Instruction at Los Medanos College and manages the college’s work experience and internship program. His enrollment in cooperative work experience as an LMC student and volunteer firefighter in 1975 jump started his 30-year career that culminated at the rank of fire chief. He’s a long-time LMC adjunct fire technology instructor and holds an MS in Education, Option in Online Teaching and Learning from CSU East Bay, a BS in Occupational Studies from CSU Long Beach and an AS in Fire Technology from Los Medanos College. David has served as the Association’s annual conference committee chair and currently serves as president.

Aleta Wolfe

Employer: Career Experience Counselor, Career Services | California State University, Fresno

Aleta first became involved in CIWEA (CCEIA) while serving on the ’92 Conference Planning Committee. She served as Nominations and Elections Chair '93-'01, Vice President '01-'02, President "02-'03 and '05-'06, Conference Chair Fall '04, Conference Co-Chair '06-'07, and is the current Past President and Mentor Program Coordinator '07-'08. Aleta earned a B.S. in Business Administration-Marketing and an M.A. in Education Counseling from California State University, Fresno. She also serves on the Fresno Chamber and Clovis Chamber Ambassador Committees, the Early Education Committee at Temple Beth Israel, and has been a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters for over nine years. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family (husband David, 4th grade son Matthew and 2nd grade daughter Hannah) and friends.

John Woodard

Employer: Work Experience Instructor | MiraCosta College

The 2010-11 academic year begins his forty-third year in education. Most of those years were spent teaching high school biology and chemistry, but over the last ten years, teaching Cooperative Work Experience Education has become another one of his passions. John looks forward to continue serving on the CIWEA Board this year. He is back this year serving as the Hyink Scholarship Chair. John is married with two adult children. He enjoys traveling, camping and spending time with his family.
